Discover our comforting candles

As the colder days set in, it's the perfect time to cozy up in a big, soft blanket with our favorite book or in front of Netflix. It's also a great time to light a candle and add a fragrant ambiance to any room in your home. Check out our candles and learn more about their properties and how to use them.

About our candles

Our candles are entirely hand-poured in our workshop in Val-des-Monts, Quebec. We use soybeans (non-GMO) with essential oils and/or phthalate-free synthetic fragrances. We offer you durable candles that are non-polluting and whose wax is entirely biodegradable. This natural wax offers you a clean combustion, without petroleum and moreover, it does not increase the CO2 in the atmosphere.

Two types of candles

First, there are our soy candles in 6 oz format, which will burn for about 20 hours. In addition to limited edition candles for certain occasions (e.g.: holiday season), we find our classics:

You will also find our Oriental Moonlight – Massage Candle, perfect for a romantic evening.

In addition, in collaboration with L'Atelier aux quatre mains, a Chelsea-based company, we offer four rechargeable candles in a ceramic ramekin that will burn for up to 30 hours:

Get a ceramic candle first and once fully burned, you can get a refill, which comes in a compostable container. You can also reuse the ramekin as a coffee cup or planter.

How to get the most out of your candle?

To get the most out of your Saponaria candle, we recommend that the first time you burn it, you make sure to let the candle burn until all the wax on the surface becomes liquid, right up to the outer edges of the container (usually between 1.5 and 2 hours) before blowing it out. Soy wax has an excellent memory, extinguishing too soon will cause the wax to tunnel and if you have extinguished the wick before allowing a full melt, all future uses will never exceed the diameter of the first time.

Keeping your wick trimmed to about 1/4" before lighting it prevents any extra soot from sticking to the sides of your container. If your flame dances a lot, gets very high or forms a "mushroom" on top, it is best to blow out your candle, trim the wick slightly and relight it. It's also dangerous when the flames get super high (even if it's pretty to look at), especially if you're burning near other objects.

It's important to always burn your candle on a safe surface, as the container can get hot. Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. Finally, never leave a candle unattended or burning for more than 4 hours at a time.

What if the scent isn't concentrated enough?

Sometimes large, open-plan rooms prevent a candle from filling an entire space. Try keeping your candle in smaller rooms in the house like a bedroom or a room with a door you can close, so you can keep that scent in. If you have large spaces, you can opt for a second candle to get the maximum scent.

Remember, the nose gets used to the scent. If you've been lighting a candle for a long time and you've lost the scent, leave the room for a while, and come back.
